Support Local: Do it Yourself

On top of becoming your own bartender, chef and entertainer during quarantine, you’re probably also thinking back to your favorite spots and whether or not they’ll be able to survive the closures and social distance orders.

Luckily, there’s plenty you can do to battle these frustrations. Some of our favorite, local restaurants and boutiques have put together mail-to-you DIY kits so you can enjoy your favorite activities while supporting the businesses you love.

Cocktail Creations

We could all use a bartender-grade cocktail right about now. Afterall, your Gin and Tonic skills can only go so far. Thankfully, local restaurants and bars have put together DIY cocktail kits so you can finally enjoy your favorite margarita – from the comfort of your kitchen.

Canalis is serving up top-shelf cocktail kits that can make between 12-24 cocktails, so you’ll have plenty of cocktails for the whole weekend.

Earls in Bellevue offers margarita and mimosa DIY kits for pickup and delivery along with a full menu that covers brunch, lunch, dinner and happy hour favorites.

The Whale Wins is a Fremont favorite that’s offering up “Classic Kits” to make Manhattans, Sazeracs and Martinis.

Lady Jaye, a West Seattle BBQ spot, offers a smoked rib dinner with DIY old fashioned kit for two.

Some other favorites: Navy Strength delivers DIY tiki drinks, Nue offers classics and some spicy options and Tamari Bar sells highball kits and hand rolls for a Japanese date night.

In Bellevue, 520 Bar and Grill, Bellevue Brewing Company and Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar all offer take out and delivery beer and wine.

Try Glass Art

Molten Works glass studio offers “Create At-Home” kits for families that want to explore glass design. Their kits include everything you need, even tweezers and glue! Choose from one of their many designs including flowers, the Seattle skyline and jellyfish.

If you live close to the store, Moltenworks will even deliver the kit, pick up your finished piece to be fired, and then re-deliver the finished product to your home for only $10.

Paint n’ Sip

A Tacoma favorite, Uncorked Canvas has created Art At Home Kits. These kits are perfect for a family-friendly friday activity, or an at-home date night.

Simply visit their website and pick the piece you’d like to create. Then, Uncorked Canvas will gather all the materials you’ll need and mail them directly to your door. When you’re ready to get painting, you’ll receive a special link to an online painting tutorial – just like you’re in a class.

Candle Kits

ELM Candle Bar is offering DIY Candle kits that include everything you need for a night-in activity. They provide all the supplies in correct measurements and instruction. When you order your kit, ELM lets you choose from a selection of jars, lids and more than 90 fragrances.

This DIY is also perfect for a Zoom happy hour with friends. Once everyone’s received their kit, grab some wine, hop online and create together!

Something Sweet

Trophy Cupcakes is a staple in Seattle – we see that all-too-familiar box at birthday parties, anniversaries and weddings. Luckily, we can do our part to support this local business by ordering DIY cupcake kits! Each kit comes with a dozen cupcakes, frosting and sprinkles.

Sure you can make cupcakes at home, but do they ever turn out nearly as delicious?
